Ministry Teams

The ministry of MCCD not only offers you a place to worship God, but also a place to serve the community. MCCD has taken active part in community events and festivals as part of its ministry since 1972. All people are welcome to participate in the ministry of MCCD, if you would like more information about the mission or ministry of MCCD, please e-mail us at the link provided on the contact page. The doors of MCCD are open to anyone who seeks a better understanding of themselves, their spirituality, and God. We welcome you to our church and its ministries and pray that you will feel the touch of God whenever you are involved in our ministry.

Worship

The main reason any church exists is to minister to the community it serves. MCCD ministers to the community by offering worship services, spiritual renewal and other religious services (click here for service schedule).

Spiritual Renewal Weekends are held each year in the Spring and Fall, and offer a time to renew your spirit through the act of worship and healing. Our guests for the weekends for many years have been Evangelist and Gospel Singer Rev. Delores Berry, and the Rev. Elder Jerri Ann Harvey.

Our Children's Sunday School, during our 9:00 AM service, offers parents the opportunity to include their children in the MCCD family. Activities in the past have included field trips to the nearby Detroit Zoo.

Music

Music plays an important part in worship. MCCD has been blessed with musicians of high quality. Our musicians participate in all worship services providing uplifting spiritual music for worship.

The driving force behind the music ministry team is our Minister of Music, Brian D. M. Londrow. Brian has served at MCCD for more than 10 years as pianist and choir director. Brian's talents are also utilized by the Detroit Together Men's Chorus, where he serves as Artistic Director.

The Choir of MCCD is made up of MCCD members, friends and people who attend regularly. Membership is open to all who wish to be involved in the choir. The choir participates in worship services at MCCD as well as at other churches in our area. The choir uses music from all types of musical backgrounds including standard church music, classical, and gospel.

Technology Team

The Technology Team of MCCD exists to spread the message of MCCD to the Metropolitan Detroit area through the church newsletter, this web site, and advertising. The Technology team is always looking for new ways to effectively reach people in our community.

Education

MCCD offers a series of two Membership/Educational classes for those who want to know more about MCCD and the denomination it belongs to. The classes are open to all those who are interested in MCCD and its ministry, and you do not have to become a member after attending them.

Periodically, MCCD offers workshops on various subjects such as 'Love Languages,' 'Homosexuality and the Bible,' and 'Durable Power of Attorney, a Seminar for Couples.'

Pastoral Staff

The Pastoral Staff of MCCD consists of those people who have felt a calling by God to serve this church. MCCD's Pastoral Staff takes part in the worship services in many different ways. Each member of the Pastoral Staff has a specific ministry that God has called them to.

The Pastoral Staff also includes those people who have felt God calling them into the professional ministry. Formation Students (Student Clergy) participate in all aspects of ministry within the church to prepare them for ministries of their own, while fulfilling the educational requirements to become ordained clergy in the UFMCC. MCC Detroit currently has two formation students who are training for ordination and one clergy candidate.

Board of Directors

Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit, like other UFMCC churches, is governed by a Board of Directors elected by the local congregation. The Board of Directors' primary function is to manage the church's finances.

Members of the Board of Directors also participate in worship and social activities of the church.

Fundraising

MCCD sponsors and co-sponsors various events both in the church and in the community including fundraising projects. These fundraising projects help provide MCCD with the supplemental funds needed to assist our church in providing the services the community needs. Some of these events include dinner, or theater nights.

Fellowship

MCCD provides a place for fellowship. Each Sunday morning after the 9am and 11am services we sponsor times of fellowship. These are times when our regular attendees and new friends come together and get to know each other over refreshments. Also during those times, the MCCD Store is open. Some of the items available at the Store are pride bracelets and key rings, books and bumper stickers.

In addition to our regular Sunday fellowship, the church takes part in and sponsors many special events. These include such things as fundraisers at local establishments, as well as participation in Motor City Pride and Hotter Than July.
