Because of the success we had with this fundraiser, we will continue to collect the cans until the end of the year!!! You can turn them in during service offering, or hand them to any usher or Stewardship Team Member! The total collected as of 12/6/2015 is $3,916.07 and we will continue to collect cans until the end of the year--you have ONE more week to turn them in and receive credit on your 2015 giving statement.  THANK YOU all for the tremendous success of our Stewardship Can Drive and we look forward to doing it again in 2016!!

Same Great Group, New Name!

12/23/2015

Picture

The group formerly known as "Walking Together" has decided to rename itself. The group's new name is "Survive2Thrive" and we're really excited about this evolution! When the group began, the idea was to provide people living with cancer and people caring for people with cancer a safe space to express themselves no matter where they were on their journey. The name suggested forward motion and that felt good to the group members! From the outside, though, it sounded like a walking club - mall walking? Speed walking? Power-walking? You get the idea. By refreshing the group's name, we hope that people who need what this dynamic group has to offer will find us. We meet the first Monday of the month (except for January 2016) at the church office.  For January 2016, we will meet for dinner (at a restaurant to be named soon) on
January 18.

MCCD collected coats for Ruth Ellis Center and supported The Christmas Adopt a Family Giving Tree program. We were able to help several families with toys, gifts, clothing, and the makings of a Christmas feast. Thank you for your generosity in Jesus' Name!

World AIDS Day Service - Tuesday, December 1st at 7pm

11/14/2015

Many organizations are gathering for a shared World AIDS Day service at Spirit of Hope located at 1519 Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.in Detroit. The service will include representatives from local HIV service agencies, poets and spoken word artists, gospel musicians, story tellers, testimonies as well as numerous ways for attendees to participate with hands on healing worship. We will gather at Spirit of Hope, a Lutheran and Episcopal church, home to a comprehensive HIV prevention and support program in partnership with Gospel Against AIDS. This commemoration, now a multi-faith service, has a long history and in recent years has relocated to the heart of the city where there is a great need to address this issue.
